Have you ever wanted to try your hand at poetry, but that blank piece of paper made it tough to get started?  Blackout poetry combines words and art to make a one-of-a-kind creation using existing text.  Starting with pages of writing, cover up chosen words with simple lines or drawings, leaving a poem behind!  During the month of October, Ascension Parish Library branches in Donaldsonville and Galvez will have recycled book pages and markers available to get you started.  Continue in the spirit of September’s Banned Books Week by turning censorship on its head — use it to create a new work of art!

Want to give it a try?  Stop by our Donaldsonville or Galvez locations to create your poem and earn a small prize.  For more information, please call Donaldsonville at 473-8052 or Galvez at 622-3339.
