Love hearing stories before bedtime? Then put on your jammies and join us for Pajama Storytime. Designed for children ages 8 and younger and their families. At Pajama Storytime, we will read great stories, sing fun songs, and you will get to make an easy craft to take home.
Babytime is designed for children from birth through 18 months. Toddler Storytime is children ages 15 months through 2 years. Preschool Storytime is for children ages 3 through 5.
Toddler Storytime, Preschool Storytime, and Babytime sessions are held for 8 weeks every spring, summer, and fall. Other Storytimes, such as Bilingual and Pajama Storytime are usually held monthly. Please check with your local Ascension Parish Library location for specific dates.
Babytime sessions last approximately 15 minutes. Toddler, Preschool, Bilingual, and Pajama Storytime sessions last approximately 25-30 minutes.
Please arrive early enough to make a last minute trip to the restroom if necessary. Once Preschool Storytime begins, no children will be admitted. Please do not open or knock on the door, as frequent interruptions disturb the children.
Children have different listening skills, depending on their stage of development and personality. Sometimes a noisy or active child causes so much disturbance that others cannot hear or focus. If your child doesn’t want to listen today, you can leave the room briefly and rejoin us when your child is ready.
If your child gets noisy or disruptive during Preschool Storytime, please try to redirect your child, and library staff will attempt to get your child to focus and listen to the stories. However, if after several attempts, your child continues to show that they are not ready for the Preschool Storytime experience, you will be asked to take the child out of the room. Once a child is taken out of the room, they will not be able to re-enter the room. The library encourages you to bring your child back the following week to try again.
When you sing along or do a finger rhyme, you are showing your child that what we are doing is not only fun, but also important.
Unfortunately, your chatting becomes a distraction for others. Please turn off your cell phone and have personal conversations after story time is over. Then you can hang out and visit wherever you are comfortable for as long as you want.
Yes! All Ascension Parish Library locations offer Pajama Storytime where children and their families are invited to attend in their pajamas for a fun evening of stories, songs, and a craft. Our Gonzales location also offers Bilingual Storytime for families to experience stories and songs presented in both English and Spanish. Both of these storytimes are geared towards children ages 8 and younger and their families. Pajama and Bilingual storytimes last approximately 25 minutes, and both are followed by a simple craft.
