Ascension Parish Library is not only a library of books, but also of things and experiences. Try a new craft, strum a ukulele, plan a family board game night, or go on a birding walk by using your library card.

How to Check Out Things

Most Library of Things items can be placed on hold in the library catalog with an active APL card and picked up at a library location.

Adventure Passes can be reserved through our online ticketing system. Call one of our locations for assistance.

Telescopes can only be checked out from and returned to their original library locations, which are named in the library catalog.

Our Seed Library offers a selection of seeds that cardholders can pick up at all of our locations during growing seasons, while supplies last.

How to Return Materials

Library of Things materials must be returned to the checkout desk at any library location (unless otherwise specified at check out) during regular operation hours. To avoid damages, please do not return items to our book drops.

Borrower Responsibility

Library cardholders can borrow up to two Things at a time for a period of two weeks. Borrowers accept responsibility for the return of all parts included with Things. While fines may not be charged for minor damages and loss of some parts, the library reserves the right to charge for replacement parts if deemed necessary. Borrowers will be charged for items that are not returned.

    • An Adventure Pass is a printable, digital ticket that allows free admission to one of our partner organizations. Printable pass confirmations are available to you on the Adventure Pass + Check Out Louisiana website after you make a reservation.

    • Check Out Louisiana Museums is an exciting initiative of the State Library of Louisiana promoting our state’s rich historical, recreational, cultural, and educational resources. Through this program, Louisiana residents with a current library card can check out a free, one-day pass to a Louisiana museum from any of the state’s participating public library systems. Now, Ascension Parish Library offers access to both our established Adventure Pass partners along with the new Check Out Louisiana offers provided by the State Library of Louisiana.

    • Any Ascension Parish resident aged 18 or older with an Ascension Parish Library card in good standing can check out an Adventure Pass or Check Out Louisiana offer. The library cardholder named on the pass must be present to redeem the pass at the museum. Adults must show a photo ID at the museum’s or nature center’s admissions desk.

    • Adventure Passes can be reserved on our website. You need your library card number and PIN to complete the reservation. PIN numbers are created by combining the first three letters of your last name in all caps and the last five digits of your library card number. When you find the attraction that you want to reserve, click on Offers. Printable pass confirmations are available to you on your account after you make the reservation. Each organization clarifies if you need to print the pass or if you can display the pass on your mobile device.

    • A printable pass is reserved online. Your pass is available in your account under My Reservations, and you must click Print/Download to obtain your pass. You can present the confirmation as a paper printout or display the confirmation on your mobile device upon arrival at the museum or nature center. Please note, you CANNOT cancel or modify your reservation after you click Print/Download.

    • An offer is a pass to get into one of the attractions. The reservation website describes Adventure Passes as “offers” and museums and nature centers as “attractions.” Each attraction allows patrons to reserve a set number of offers/passes. For most attractions, each visitor will need their own offer, and a patron aged 18 or older will be able to reserve an offer for both themselves and a minor child to visit an attraction on the same day. For some attractions, one offer admits a group of people. Each attraction clearly states how many offers a patron can reserve and how many people are admitted per offer.

    • The number of people one pass admits varies from place to place. The details are listed for each attraction on the Adventure Pass + Check Out Louisiana website.

    • Each patron aged 18 or older may have 4 active reservations at a time. Each attraction states how frequently a patron can reserve an offer for that attraction.

    • The number of daily available passes/offers for each attraction varies according to the agreement between the partner organization and the Library. To the right of each attraction name, a patron can see how many offers are still available for reservation. When a pass is no longer available for a given day, it is marked unavailable. If you have met your max amount of offers for a particular attraction, No passes available at this time will show under Offers for that attraction.

    • If your group needs more passes than the number available, you must purchase additional tickets directly from the partner organization.

    • You can reserve an Adventure Pass up to two months in advance.

    • Adventure Passes may be canceled up to the date of the reservation through your Adventure Pass + Check Out Louisiana Museums account if you have not yet downloaded your offer details. Go to your account. Click on My Reservations. Then click Cancel Reservation. If you must cancel after you have downloaded the pass, please email adventurepass@myapl.org to discuss possible cancellation. Passes cannot be canceled after the date of the reservation.

    • No. If the pass was canceled before or on the date of the reservation without downloading the pass, the pass does not count as being used. You may reserve another pass. Passes cannot be canceled after they have been downloaded or after the date of the reservation.

    • If you have already reserved one offer for an attraction and would like to reserve another for the same day, refresh you page to see the attraction offers available. If no attraction offers appear after refreshing the page, either you have reserved your max limit of offers or other patrons have reserved that month’s available offers.

    • You can retrieve and download your pass through your Adventure Pass + Check Out Louisiana account.

    • If you reserve a pass and don’t use it, the pass expires, and marks as used in our Adventure Pass system. Your ability to reserve another pass at that attraction will depend on the limits for that attraction and your account.

    • Be sure to refresh your page once you have reserved an offer if you need to reserve more offers.

    • You likely have four active reservations, which is the max amount of offers you may have reserved at one time.
